{"id":2427,"date":"2023-03-01T15:42:23","date_gmt":"2023-03-01T15:42:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/carelli.se\/?p=2427"},"modified":"2023-10-02T14:00:38","modified_gmt":"2023-10-02T14:00:38","slug":"carelli-mot-diskriminering","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/carelli.se\/en\/carelli-mot-diskriminering\/","title":{"rendered":"Carelli against discrimination"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In connection with the International Day Against Discrimination, we want to spread knowledge about this but also highlight how we at Carelli assistans work with an inclusive workplace and society.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As employers, we are obliged to do everything we can to counteract and prevent discrimination in the workplace. But as assistance providers, we also have an opportunity to help counteract and prevent our customers from being subjected to any form of discrimination in their everyday lives, regardless of whether it is about their disability, age, gender, transgender identity or expression, ethnicity, religion or other beliefs or sexual orientation&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, our clients sometimes encounter ignorance in society. One of our clients describes:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\"I am often ignored when I am shopping, if I ask the people working in the shop something they don't look at me but only at my assistant when they answer. I get so annoyed, and sad.\"<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We at Carelli assistans believe that we as a company have an even greater obligation but also the opportunity to also work against discrimination in society and in Sweden not only for our customers or in our workplaces.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">So what are we doing to work towards a world of equality and non-discrimination?&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As an employer, we have zero tolerance for such behavior and treatment, and we immediately investigate all incidents where someone has felt discriminated against. We are careful to address the causes of the incident with the goal that everyone has the right to a workplace where everyone is treated equally no matter what. Of course, this also applies to our customers who should never be disadvantaged or offended, whether because of unfairness or discrimination. We encourage our assistants and customers to speak up if they notice that someone around them is being disadvantaged or offended in any way.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At a global level, we are committed to engaging with stakeholders who, like us, believe in an equal world without discrimination. We are involved in keeping the issue and conversations on inclusion, equality and discrimination alive, partly through our social media, but also in the working groups and in collaboration forums.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">More on discrimination<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Discrimination Act (2008:567)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Discrimination Act protects individuals against discrimination in a wide range of areas of society. Under this law, all forms of discrimination are prohibited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The definition of discrimination<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For something to be legally defined as discrimination:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>it must be a person who has been disadvantaged or offended<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>there must be a link to a ground of discrimination (sexual harassment does not require this link)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>it must be one of the forms of discrimination described in the law<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>must have taken place in one of the areas of society where the law applies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The grounds of discrimination:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>queue<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>transgender identity or expression<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ethnicity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>religion or other beliefs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>disability<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>sexual orientation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>age<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Six different forms of discrimination:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>direct discrimination<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>indirect discrimination<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>lack of availability<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>harassment and sexual harassment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>instructions to discriminate<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Examples of areas of society where the Discrimination Act provides protection:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>At work<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>At school<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The performance of certain social actors, e.g. landlords, banks, social security, employment services, health centers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is not discrimination?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If it is a disadvantage or insult that is not related to a discrimination ground, it is not discrimination. The exception is sexual harassment, which does not require a link to a ground of discrimination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Discrimination Act does not regulate all areas of society, nor what happens between private individuals. The content of advertising, TV, radio, social media and newspapers is also not covered by the prohibition of discrimination.
